ENTREPRENEUR EXPO: Supporting New Businesses | News
Some entrepreneurs are looking to start their own businesses in the new year and in Fort Dodge there is help available to get them started.
“If you have a good idea, one that’s going to work selling your product or service, there really isn’t a bad time…it’s always a good time,” says Cliff Weldon, MIDAS Council of Governments.
Fort Dodge is making sure people have the tools to get a business started at an Entrepreneur Expo.
One of the speakers is Shari Burke. Last year she launched her business, Studio Fusion, in Fort Dodge. She helps customers make their own art glass ware using recycled glass pieces.
Burke started the business in her garage four years ago. After one year with a store front, burke says she’s learned the number one lesson.
“Customer service is key. I don’t really have any employees so if something goes wrong or if a customer is unhappy it’s really me. You have to just take it a day at a time. Some days I’m swamped and then some days I sit here and have nothing,” says Burke.
The Entrepreneur Expo in Fort Dodge is January 15th. It is from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge.
The seminar, which is free, will cover the basics of entrepreneurship including financing, marketing, and running a business.
